Why and how you should set up a free community

A strong community can be the difference between a one off client and a lifelong advocate for your brand.

When you create a sense of belonging, you give people more than a place to exercise — you give them a support system that keeps them motivated, accountable, and engaged. People will tend to invite their friends into the group to get a piece of the value and togetherness, thus selling your business organically.

Here’s how you can start building your fitness community:

  • Create an online hub.
Set up a free Facebook or WhatsApp group where members can get to know each other, share wins, and ask questions. Post quick tips, or short workout ideas. These little bits of value keep your clients engaged between sessions and help them feel part of something bigger.
  • Run a social, not just a workout.
Set up a weekly run club, weekend hike, or park bootcamp where people can show up for free and bring friends. It’s a low pressure way for newcomers to meet you, try your training style, and feel the energy of your group.
  • Celebrate THEIR wins.
Share client results, this doesn’t have to be a progress photo, it might be a first 5k, a new PB in the gym, or them becoming a more confident version of themselves. If they are proud of themselves then this builds loyalty, and it will inspire others in the community to do the same.
  • Encourage support between each other.
The more members cheer each other on the more connected they will feel to the group, which makes it less about you, more about them and feeling part of something.

When people feel supported, inspired, and connected, they’ll show up more, stick with you longer, and become your best marketing team.
