How to grow on social media

This year I made a commitment to growing my social media on all platforms. I went from 10k followers on instagram and 600 followers on TikTok to 55.5k on instagram, 40.8k on TikTok, and also set up a Facebook page a few months back which now has 12k followers.

How did I do it? What’s the real reason I was able to grow so quickly? I’ll be honest..

I just enjoy doing it. The reason I’m saying this is that people put out content that they wouldn’t even watch themselves. Especially in the fitness industry.. I spent years showing people ‘how to do a bench press’ or ‘what to eat in a calorie deficit’ and I wouldn’t even watch the videos I was putting out myself, never mind expecting others to watch them!

In December last year I decided to drop the boring act and start being myself on social media, putting out videos that I would watch and showing my personality on my story posts.

This did 3 things:

  • It allowed me to be more consistent with my posts as I now enjoy putting content out.
  • It helped my engagement as people were starting to buy into me as a person and not just think I’m trying to sell them a plan
  • It meant I was able to put out enough content to learn the market, I had enough case studies of content that works and content that doesn’t, to keep improving on what I was doing

The revenue I make from social media now is through the roof.. and I haven’t even done one sales pitch!

It shows that people buy into people and you’re better off resonating with your audience rather than just trying to sell them a product.
